Our "Neighbor Grains" Program

People are at the heart of everything we do at Janie’s Mill, and Neighbor Grains is one way we partner with others to get high quality, nutritious organic products to those who would otherwise be unable to access them. To donate wholesome and nutritious organic flour, simply go to our Neighbor Grains product page. 

We are dedicated not just to give back, but to give forward.  So for every Neighbor Grains purchase you make, we pay your generosity forward with a one-to-one match. That means that for every pound you donate, we give another — thus doubling your impact!

We tally all Neighbor Grans donations at the end of each quarter and deliver them to a food bank or other nonprofit providing healthy food to the community. Scroll down to find out about our current Neighbor Grains partner, Rooted for Good.

Eden Place Farms

The recipient of Janie's Mill "Neighbor Grains" donations for the second quarter of 2026 is Eden Place Farms.

It began as a response to the food desert that has existed for over 50 years in the Fuller Park neighborhood of Chicago. As part of Fuller Park Community Development, Eden Place Farms teaches urban residents about agriculture and local food production. Every week, fresh produce from their farm is delivered to homes, workplaces, restaurants, health food stores, and community spaces.

How to Donate to Neighbor Grains

Simply click here to donate our versatile Organic All-Purpose Flour to a neighbor in need! Each 1.5-lb bag that you purchase is matched 1:1 by Janie's Mill, and all donations are sent to our Neighbor Grains recipient at the end of each quarter.

Background
Early in 2025, a popular federal program that provided funding for food banks and other organizations to purchase healthy local foods was eliminated. This occurred as other funding for programs focused on alleviating food insecurity were also cut. So Janie’s Mill decided to help our neighbors, and offer you a way to help, too!

Neighbor Grains was inspired by Neighbor Loaves, a program implemented by many of our brick & mortar bakeries during the pandemic to assist those in need. Our version is similar, only we donate flours instead of loaves so that recipients can make pancakes, muffins, cookies, or whatever they like!

One-to-One Match

Janie's Mill matches all donations one-to-one, so the more you donate, the more we match, and the more high-quality nutritious flour goes to our community.

For example, if 500 bags of flour are donated by YOU, the community, Janie’s Mill will kick in 500 additional bags!

Add our Neighbor Grains product to your order to participate. Please note that the Neighbor Grains product will NOT be shipped to you with your order. Instead, all bags of flour purchased as part of our Neighbor Grains donation program will be sent to our recipient organization at the end of the quarter. Neighbor Grains purchases are not considered tax deductible because they are an indirect donation. You may always make a direct charitable donation to the recipient organization.

In Q1 2026, we donated a total of 2,010 pounds of All-Purpose Flour to Rooted For Good (That's 670 1.5-lb bags donated by YOU + the 670 bag match by Janie's Mill!)

In Q4 2025, we donated a total of 3,957 pounds of All-Purpose Flour to Operation Food Search (1,319 1.5-lb bags donated by YOU + 1,319 bag match by Janie's Mill!)
