Organic Whole Oat Groats

$5.25 Regular Price
  • Product Info

Whole grain oats are also known as groats. “Groat” is an old Scottish word for any hulled grain, but it’s mainly used for oats in modern English, while “berry” is used for whole grains of wheat and rye. Our organic whole grain oats are rich in B-vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber, and low in sodium and unsaturated fat. They have a pleasing texture and wholesome nutty taste. You can use them as you would wheat berries — for grain bowls, pilafs, soups, stews, and hot cereal.

Cook up your whole oats as you would brown rice, with about 3 parts water to 1 part grain. The amount of time will vary, depending on if you cook them on top of the stove, in a crock-pot slow-cooker, or in an insta-pot or pressure cooker — check out our helpful guide and recipes. Use the cooked oats for breakfast cereal, soups, stews, pilafs, casseroles and grain salads.

A little disappointed

I'm a first time customer. I cooked the oat grouts like I've been cooking other brands for 45 years: 3-1/2 cups water to 1 cup oats for 1 hour, but they weren't getting soft or creamy as usual. So I added 2 more cups of water and cooked another 30 minutes. Still weren't soft or very creamy. So I'm a little disappointed. They were slightly better after I covered with lid and let sit a couple hours. Also not happy the company couldn't tell me if the oats have been tested for heavy metals, mold, or other toxins as is common with oats, which I'm surprised they weren't aware of.

Easy does it

I was so excited to try these groats for the health benefits. I also have always enjoyed overnight oats, etc. After cooking them for more than an hour and preparing my jar for the next morning, I continued eating the groats with fruit for 3 out of 4 days. However, my stomach was practically breaking on Day 4 😖. I recommend easing into this hearty grain. It took a few days for the pain to subside. Maybe I’ll go back to a 1/2 cup serving once a week but then what benefits will I really obtain? Just a word of advice for those with sensitive stomachs.

Excellent oat groats. The ones I've tried before had many groats with hulls, making eating them unpleasant. Thank you for your superior product!
