Organic Whole Oat Groats

$5.25 Regular Price

  • Product Info

Whole grain oats are also known as groats. “Groat” is an old Scottish word for any hulled grain, but it’s mainly used for oats in modern English, while “berry” is used for whole grains of wheat and rye. Our organic whole grain oats are rich in B-vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber, and low in sodium and unsaturated fat. They have a pleasing texture and wholesome nutty taste. You can use them as you would wheat berries — for grain bowls, pilafs, soups, stews, and hot cereal.

Cook up your whole oats as you would brown rice, with about 3 parts water to 1 part grain. The amount of time will vary, depending on if you cook them on top of the stove, in a crock-pot slow-cooker, or in an insta-pot or pressure cooker — check out our helpful guide and recipes. Use the cooked oats for breakfast cereal, soups, stews, pilafs, casseroles and grain salads.

My new favorite breakfast!

I'm a huge fan of oatmeal. But, after friends introduced me to cooked whole oats for breakfast, I found my new favorite! Whole oats give you something to bite into and then enjoy the oat flavor. They have body! They aren't as prone to becoming mushy! They can also be used as a grain for other meals and would pair well with a variety of vegetables (or fruits, even) in a grain salad. Only caution is to make sure they don't overcook with too much water, or you'll end up with an oatmeal! I

Another quality Janie’s product, thank you!

I regularly slow cook steel cut oats to have on hand for quick breakfast prep. Have also been purchasing various flours for bread making (favorite is semolina!) so figured it made sense to try Janie’s organic oat groats too. The other reviews here were very helpful so I tried a small bag first. Delicious! and better than any brand of steel cut I’ve tried. Very happy with my 3# bags recently ordered, thank you for the delicious healthy products you grow and sell.

Great grains

I love groats and these are much better than the bulk grains I got from WinCo. I will be back

A quality product

The color and plumpness of oats various from year to year. The best oats are absolutely golden in color with beautiful straw almost the same color. Unfortunately, God has more control of that than the grower.

Excellent

Easy ordering process. Quality oat groats. Sturdy packaging. Quick delivery. Fill water in my Little Dipper food warmer with 1/4 cup of oat groats. Set timer for 4-5 hours overnight. By morning, oat groats are cooked to perfection. Add a spoonful of organic honey roasted peanut butter, a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips, banana slices, handful of blueberries and a sprinkle of chopped nuts and breakfast is ready, wholesome, nutritious and piping hot. So delicious.
